APPLYING FOR A BRITISH FRIENDS/FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP

The British Friends of Harvard Business was set up to offer financial help to able, but financially needy British students wishing to attend Harvard Business School. Candidates for  joint degrees with the Harvard Kennedy School are also eligible to apply.  The British Friends believe that there are other sources of financial aid that students can apply to for second year funding. See the sources of financial aid document.

The Scholarships are administered through the highly prestigious Fulbright Commission.

Applications are warmly welcomed from all British students from both public and private sector backgrounds. Download an application form.

Applicants may wish to note the following:

Prospective British candidates should have applied to HBS for a place on the MBA course in one of the first two admissions rounds (October or January). Candidates for the March admissions round will not be eligible.

They should then apply to the Fulbright Commission as soon as possible. Applications to the Fulbright Commission will be accepted from candidates who do not yet know the outcome of their application to HBS, although scholarships will be awarded only to candidates with accepted places at HBS. Eligible candidates may be asked to attend an interview with the Trustees of the British Friends in May.

Applications for the Fulbright British Friends of Harvard Business School Awards can be found on the Fulbright Commission website and must be submitted no later than Friday 3 April 2009 with interviews taking place on 23 April 2009.

Fulbright BFHBS MBA Awards are given for study at Harvard Business School only.

The award provides tuition fees for the first academic year, as long as there is no duplication of funding from other sources. If your tuition fees are paid from any other source, you must inform us

Fulbright awards are not deferrable. If you defer your place at university, you will have to reapply for the award, with new references for the correct academic year.

To be eligible for a Fulbright award, you must hold a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree. If you have not yet graduated, your university must confirm a 2:1 or higher in May/June 2009.

Fulbright awards are offered to UK citizens or EU citizens normally resident in the UK. If you hold, or are eligible to hold, US citizenship, or if you are already resident in the US, you may not apply.

The Trustees of the British Friends of HBS ask for evidence of financial need and a commitment by the applicant to return to the UK after graduating with an MBA.

Scholarships will only be offered to students who have achieved a place. Trustees of the British Friends of HBS will make their decision on scholarship awards in mid-May.

Financial need is defined as applicants earning £40,000 pa or less, although consideration will be given to other candidates able to demonstrate need.
